This 3 hour seminar usually held in the evening is designed to give you an overview of Infection Control and Sterilisation Processes for Office Based Practice according to the Australian Standards. It is essential for clinicians, practitioners and practice managers who need to understand the legal requirements for office based practice.
This seminar will focus on the process of validation that must be completed by practice staff not sterilising technicians. Implemented correctly it can save you $500 in monitoring costs per yearjust for one steriliser. You do not need expensive tracking systems and we promise to show you how to save money on your cleaning chemicals and equipment and your steriliser maintenance after spending the day with us. Do you know what is normal waste and what is clinical waste?To enhance the experience for all attendees numbers are limited.
Other topics will include, Staff Immunisations, Legal Issues, Staff Training Requirements, Personal Protective Equipment, Waste Management, Blood and Body Spills, Management of Infection Control Incidents, and Quality Assurance for Office Based Practice

On successful completion of this course participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance from us on the day of the course as well as Statement of Attainment for the unit HLTIN301A Comply with Infection Control Policy and Procedures in Health Work. You may then applyfor RPL for one full unit of training in many health related courses under the national framework including the Certificate III and IV in Sterilisation Technology as well as the Certificate III and IV in Dental Assisting.

Delivery
To ensure that staff are equipped to perform the practical functions of the role of cleaning and sterilizing instruments and also understand the legal implications for themselves and the practice the course will be deliver in two phases.
There will be an initial face to face intensive workshop of 3 days where you will complete the tuition for 7 of compulsory units of competency. You are then required to complete the assessments for each of these units through self directed learning in your own time.
The remaining five modules are then completed using written assessment tasks by flexible delivery and distance education using the comprehensive learning material provided for submission. You are also required to complete a log book which needs to be verified by your supervisor.
